OH NO!!! Flood Sweeps Away Two Teenagers In Delta

Residents of some communities in Delta State are calling on the government to immediately address the issue of flooding.

The appeal recently became intensified, following the death of some teenagers in the state who were flushed away by floods.

About a week ago, a 12-year-old girl was reportedly swept away by the flood in Okpanam Community after a downpour which lasted several hours.

A similar tragedy occurred days ago in Alibioba community, Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area where two brothers, Testimony and Godwin Okwuokenye were swept away by a ravaging flood in the area.

11-year-old Godwin reportedly fell into a gutter right in front of their home and was swept away by the flood. In an attempt to rescue him, his brother, Testimony, also lost his life.

At their home, a crowd of sympathizers were seen mourning the deceased.

Speaking to Channels Television, the parents pleaded with government to come to their aid and create more drainages to prevent a recurrence.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to the State Government, Chiedu Ebie, has visited the family to commiserate with them.

He said while the government will continue to do its best to improve the state’s infrastructure, residents should also apply caution in the rainy seasons.

Earlier in the year, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had predicted that most states would experience abnormal amounts of rainfall.

Some of the states include: Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Osun, Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers and Cross River.
