BREAKING: Senate Confirms Tanko Muhammad As CJN

The Senate has confirmed Justice Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Muhammad was confirmed on Wednesday after being screened by the whole of the Senate.

He arrived at the premises of the National Assembly on Wednesday at exactly 10:10 am before the screening began at 11:13 am.

Part of his entourage included senior judicial officers in the country, including the president of the National Industrial Court, Justice Babatunde Adejumo.

President Muhammadu Buhari had sent a letter requesting the screening and confirmation of the acting CJN on July 11.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) had recommended Muhammad for the position after former CJN Walter Onnoghen was convicted by the Code of Conduct Tribunal on April 18 for false assets declaration and subsequently banned from holding public office for 10 years.
