The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has spoken about public funds, accountability and his record in education during a radio interview with Option FM in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

Speaking about money left in three different banks that generated interest, Obi said:
βI wish everybody in this country left money in the bank they have interest. Nigeria would have been so rich that we donβt know what to do with money.β
He further stated:
βIn Nigeria, because itβs a criminalized place, the criminals will always come together to show what the honest person did. So in Nigeria, to be honest is to be a criminal. To be a criminal is to be honest.β
He added that if all Nigerian leaders had been leaving money in banks, the country would have accumulated so much wealth that it would not know what to do with it.
Speaking about his record as Anambra State governor, Obi said:
βI was the best in education, basic education as a governor. You can go and check the records. Oyeka Nweko is coming number one.β
He further stated that Professor Kole from Oxford University had visited Anambra State to witness the tremendous change in education.
