Workers of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly have lamented the closure of the Assembly complex to normal activities, describing it as an act of impunity and executive rascality.

Journalists were allowed to move near to the gate while the entire Assembly ground was inhabited by the men of the Nigerian Police and Civil Defense Corps.

Every other staffer was denied movement on the road leading to complex as they found succour in front of the nearby Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio Hall.

“There was riot, no security challenge, we are just surprised that the police are not allowing us to do our work,” a member of the Assembly Press Corps told our reporter.

All efforts to get the police field questions from reporters on the development were abortive as mum was the watchword from every security personnel on the scene.

The access road to the complex is littered with several security trucks.

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly had on Monday declared vacant, the seats of five lawmakers who defected to the APC.

The sacked lawmakers later same Monday declared one Nse Ntuen, as their new speaker, despite the sacking order from a federal high court, which was upheld by the Assembly.

“if the police wanted doing the right thing, they should allow us present our id cards and go inside to do our legitimate duties. The restrictions should have been on strangers to the assembly, ” another worker lamented.

The police is yet to issue a statement on the development.
