Beware of This Prabably New “Kidnappers” “Cultist” Scam I Experienced this Week
From a Reader:
The number +233264545641 send me an sms on Tuesday with the threat that my life is in danger this 2017.
Initially i thought one of my friends has gone to Ghana and was playing a prank on me. the same number called me day before yesterday -Wednesday, a guy at the other end claimed he was General….. ( i did not really catch the name) he said no police or soldier can save me in Jos (my home town) except I pay the sum of 500,000 naira or else i will see.He told me where i lived and he had many of “his boys” around my area. He said they were calling before striking as a courtesy because one of his boys told him I was a nice guy. i told them i dont have that kind of money. the person switched off with a threat.
The guy who spoke in pidgin english called today again with further threats, it was at this point i took the matter seriously considering the fact that there has been cultist activities in my area- a few people got killed and other violence. I thought they were targeting my dad who is a politician. so together with my dad, we reported the matter to the police who told me to play along. when the criminals called again, I told them I did not want any trouble and was able to raise 200,000 naira and its in the bank. the guy told me to go and cash before he will tell me what to do.
we got the money and i later told him I had the cash and he said i should go and deposit in this account – zenith bank- collins Esio .2054555146. we went to the bank with the police and the manager confirmed that account did not exist. I told him and he gave me another account same zenith bank Chima Anyanwu 2000256771. the manager told the police the account was genuine and the address of the person who owned the account is No.19 Ali street tinubu street lagos Island, Lagos.
At this point, before we deposited the money and as the police were arranging with the bank on how to go on with the arrest, this criminal discovered I was with the police and send me an sms that we can block the account go and arrest the “innocent” victim as they are gone already. claiming they got my number from the internet adding that “men must survive”.
interestingly enough, this guy even went ahead to send me another sms advising me to trust in God for protection. later on the DPO called my dad informing him that a lecturer at the university of Jos has come with the same complaint of threat with the same number.
Its a really long story with many dramas but this is just the summary
I believe these guys bought the airtel sim card at Ghana and are using roaming feature in Nigeria so as to make it difficult for police to track them.
i was in ghana about a year and half ago and discovered they sell pre-registered sim cards at togo Ghana border even within Ghana too.
My entire day was was ruined, besides the money we use settling police etc.
I am glad we solved this threat because I will not have to live my life in fear.
hope this saves someones money and time.
Please forgive the english and the way it was written.
