Gov Otti Hails Chief Ume as His Unubiko Foundation Splashes N70m Scholarship on Easter

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has hailed Chief Chijioke James Ume, founder of the Unubiko Foundation, following the foundation’s award of over N70 million in scholarships to hundreds of students across the state.

The governor gave the commendation on Friday in Umuahia at an event where beneficiaries were presented with their scholarship grants. He was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Eme Uche.

Governor Otti urged the students to make the most of their academic opportunities for personal growth and the development of society.

“This little candle that has been lit and handed over to you, please let it shine, let it glow, and try to hand it over to another person,” he told the beneficiaries.

The governor further lauded Chief Ume for his magnanimity and generosity in giving back to society from his personal resources.

“Chief James Ume has given you a future; he has given you hope. Don’t let it end with you,” he added.

In his speech, Chief Chijioke James Ume congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to remain ambassadors of the foundation.

“I offer my warmest congratulations to our awardees, the true stars of today’s celebration. Your achievements mark the beginning of a promising future,” he said.

“You have demonstrated resilience, discipline, and a commitment to excellence. Today, you take your place as ambassadors of this great Foundation. As you step into the next chapter of your lives, remember that you carry with you values, knowledge, and skills that will shape not only your future but also the future of our society.”

Chief Ume also extended appreciation to the foundation’s Scholarship Board for providing a solid structure that made the initiative possible. He acknowledged his wife, Mrs. Ngozi James Ume, co-founder of the Unubiko Foundation, for her visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to the growth and development of the foundation.

“Our heartfelt gratitude goes to my wife, Mrs. Ngozi James Ume, Co-founder of the Unubiko Foundation, whose visionary leadership and steadfast commitment have been instrumental in the growth and development of this Foundation,” he said.

He also recognized parents and benefactors for their unwavering support and sacrifices.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, delivered a goodwill message at the event. Other state officials present included the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibe Okwara, and the member representing Arochukwu State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Okoro.

The scholarship programme, valued at over N70 million, will run concurrently with other existing scholarships previously awarded by the foundation across Nigeria. The beneficiaries were presented with their grants on Friday during the award ceremony held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
