…Extends initiative to security agents, civil society organizations, others
All the 33 villages in Urueoffong Oruko Local Government Area and 67 villages at Mbo on Wednesday received the government food palliatives, with each village receiving its share of twenty bags of rice and two bags of garri.
Dr. Tukubok Okpoyo, the Transition Committee Chairman overseeing the distribution in Urueoffong Oruko, expressed profound gratitude to the federal government and Governor Umo Eno on the intervention.
She emphasized the critical role of village heads and youth presidents in ensuring the equitable distribution of the resources, stressing that every deserving beneficiary was included regardless of political affiliations.
Community leaders, including village heads and youth presidents from Urueoffong Oruko, thanked the Federal and State Government for the gesture and commended the chairman for following in their footsteps by adding an additional 100kg bag of garri for each village.
Similarly, in Mbo, the Transition Chairman Mr. Sunday Etim supervised the allocation of the palliative across the 67 villages and praised the Federal Government and Governor Umo Eno for the initiative, recognizing the significant relief it will bring to the downtrodden across the state.
The ceremony held at the council secretariat in Enwang saw traditional rulers and community leaders acknowledged the programme’s potential to significantly alleviate the adverse effects of the prevailing economic hardship.
Commenting on the exercise at the food storage facility in Uyo, Mr.Sylvester Edem leader of the distribution team confirmed that the palliative items to all the 2282 gazetted villages in Akwa Ibom State had been successfully concluded.
He said the exercise commenced on Friday 26th day of July 2024 as directed by Governor Umo Eno and was able to be completed on Wednesday as directed.
He also added that Governor Eno extended the gesture to other groups like security agencies, including the Police, Army, Airforce, DSS, Civil Defence, Immigration, Correctional Service, Customs, NDLEA, FRSC, NYSC, Civil society groups, Navy, as well as the non-indigenes.
