In an exciting move, Ashleigh Plumptre, a talented defender from the Super Falcons, has recently signed with Al-Ittihad, a prominent club in the Saudi Women’s Premier League.
This significant transfer was officially announced by the club via their social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), on Tuesday night, local time.
“Welcome to Al-Ittihad Ashleigh Plumptre,” the club wrote, adding the hashtag “#AshleighIsYellow.”
Reacting to the club’s post, the Leicester-born player wrote “Grateful to have signed for Al-Ittihad.
“Excited to start this journey alongside some incredible human beings.
“My journey of stepping into more of myself continues…
“It’s more than football.”
Ashleigh became a free agent when her contract with Leicester City expired in July 2023 shortly before the Woman’s World Cup.
Plumptre represented England at under-15, under-17, under-19 and under-23 levels including at the 2014 and 2015 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship.
She expressed an interest in representing Nigeria at senior level in June 2021 and made her official debut on February 18, 2022, starting in a 2–0 win over Cote d’Ivoire during the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualification.
Plumptre started all four of Nigeria’s games at the 2023 World Cup, helping the country keep three clean sheets as the team reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by England on penalties after a 0–0 draw.
