Abia gov't plans handing over public schools to communities, clamp down on sub standard schools

 

 

In her continued effort to reposition education in Abia State, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eme – Uche has engaged critical stake holders of the sector in the state.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Interacting with the Executives of Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria, Abia State Chapter ( APSHON ), All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools ( ANCOPSS ), and National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools ( NAPPS ), in her office recently, the Commissioner revealed present government’s vision to launch a ‘ Reclaim Our Schools Initiative’ where all rehabilitated government schools will be handed over to the host communities to ensure effective management and security of the structures.

 

According to a release made available to newsmen in Umuahia by Mrs Ugochi Ihediwa, Director of Information in the ministry,
the Commissioner disclosed that the Dr. Alex Otti led government will restore the lost glory of the education sector and affirmed government’s zero tolerance for proliferation of sub standard Schools in the state.

 

She also disclosed that the present government is determined to rehabilitate dilapidated structures in Public Schools in the state and equally sustain training and re – training of teachers.

 

According to Prof. Eme Uche, there will be a drastic review and re accreditation of Private Schools in the state to meet established standard and charged education stake holders to heed the clarion call.

 

In their separate responses the NAPPS Chairman, Pastor Joseph Okowu, his ANCOPSS counterpart, Chief Matthew Uzuegbu and APSHON Chairman, Mr Ahamefula Nwabueze expressed thanks to the Commissioner for the opportunity to interact with her.

 

They used the forum to point out some of the challenges confronting them and pledged their unalloyed loyalty and support to the state government.
