Kenya Denies Arrest, Deportation Of IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu

Kenyan government has said it could not ascertain whether leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in the country before being extradited to Nigeria.

Mr Kanu’s brother Kingsley had said the IPOB leader was arrested while on a visit to Kenya.

“The Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s family has learnt that he was unlawfully arrested in Kenya, detained and subsequently subjected to extraordinary rendition from Kenya to Nigeria where he is now detained,” he said.

However, director-general of Kenya Immigration Services Alexander Muteshi told Kenya’s Nation on Thursday that he could not tell if Kanu entered Kenya.

“I can’t know that,” he said.

Mr Muteshi added that he could only tell if somebody entered Kenya legally.

His comment, however, raised speculation that Kanu entered Kenyan territory via illegal routes or under a false name.

Kenya government spokesman Cyrus Oguna refused to comment on the matter.
