Health For All: Gov. Ugwuanyi Flags Off Universal Health Coverage Scheme (Photos)

The Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on Thursday, flagged off Enugu State Universal Health Coverage Scheme, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the UHC means that all individuals and communities in Enugu state will receive health services they need without suffering financial hardship.

It includes the full spectrum of essential, quality health services, from health promotion to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care.

The scheme also enables everyone to access the services that address the most significant causes of disease and death, and ensures that the quality of those services is good enough to improve the health of the people who receive them.

Mr. Ugwuanyi is protecting Enugu citizens from the financial consequences of paying for health services out of their own pockets reduces the risk that people will be pushed into poverty because unexpected illness requires them to use up their life savings, sell assets, or borrow – destroying their futures and often those of their children.

Present at the flag-off of Enugu State Universal Health Coverage Scheme and commemoration of World Universal Health Coverage Day, held at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, on Thursday were; Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya; Head of Service, Mr. Chidi Ezema.

Others are Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Rt. Hon. Dr. Daniel Ogbuabor; Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi (right), Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. George Ugwu (2nd left) and his Universal Health Coverage counterpart, Dr. Edith Okolo.
