Nnamdi Kanu Hails Germany For ‘Ruling’ In Favour Of IPOB After Ekweremadu’s Attack

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has praised the German authority for labelling the attack on the former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu in Germany as “non-criminal”, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that the Enugu Senator while attempting to force himself into the hall where an Igbo event was scheduled to hold was pounced on by members of the Igbo group in Nuremberg, Germany.

Ekweremadu was beaten and stoned by angry Igbo men, Igbere TV reports.

In one of the video clips obtained by Igbere TV, two German security personnel were seen taking pictures of the incidence before the lawmaker was driven away after his clothing with Nigerian coat of arm was torn by the angry mob.

In reaction to the attack, the Nigerian embassy in Germany had issued a statement that the attackers would be brought to justice in accordance with German law.

The statement specifically stated that if found guilty, the attackers could be charged for physical assault, which is punishable by fines or imprisonment of up to 10 years, “The Embassy has requested a thorough investigation of this attack with a view to identifying the perpetrators and bringing them swiftly to justice in accordance with German law” so as to deter others from engaging in such “ridiculous act.”

Also, the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa a few hours after the incident had claimed saying, “some of the culprits who perpetrated the act have been apprehended and we call on the German government and law enforcement agencies to ensure that there are consequences for their actions.”

Reacting swiftly, the Press Officer of Nuremberg Police, Rainer Seebauer, was quoted as saying that what transpired at the event was a protest, laying to rest the possibility of bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Taking to Twitter Tuesday, the IPOB leader Mazi Kanu said, “The popular revolt against Ekweremadu has been ruled non-criminal by German government, yet Fulani apologists (both APC and PDP) are still blinded to the gathering storm that will soon envelop them. It’s no longer about IPOB alone; it’s about the long-suffering masses of Nigeria.”

How would you describe the attack and the resolution of the German authority saying it’s a protest? Join the conversation through your comment.??
