The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the rescheduled governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, says the report by the Debt Management Office, has confirmed that the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole collected foreign loan despite claiming otherwise.
This was as he insisted that the state was heavy indebted under the curret Oshiomhole’s government.
Recall that DMO in its latest report had named Edo State among other states as one of the most indebted states in Nigeria.
Iyamu, in a statement on Thursday dared the outgoing governor to explain how he spent the N1.9 trillion allegedly received in the last 8 years.
He said, ‘’the debt management office, Abuja has just stated that Edo State, with a total of $179.52 million as at June 30 this year, holds 4.91 per cent of the nation’s subnational foreign debts. And we know this is outside over N800 billion debt that Oshiomhole has created for Edo State.”
On Oshiomhole’s statement that he will not handover to the opposition, Iyamu stressed that people of the state would compel the governor to hand over to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
He said the people of the state were desirous to change the ‘change’ that had brought misery, suffering, hike in fuel, food prices, obnoxious taxes and levies, and worst of all, deceitfulness, and were determined to take over the political battle of rescuing the state.
Iyamu lambasted the governor and the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Obaseki who he claimed is the Head of the Economic Team, saying both should be embarrased for wasting the state’s huge funds.
The PDP candidate alleged that the squandering of state funds by the outgoing government had resulted in the state’s inability to pay local government workers’ salaries for 15 to 18 months and respond to other socio-economic crisis enveloping the state.
‘’It is a shame that Governor Adams Oshiomhole and his puppet candidate, Godwin Obaseki still talk about corruption accusing innocent people of corruption, when their government stinks of corruption,” he said.
Iyamu warned that voting for the APC would amount to an endorsement of unending suffering, bleeding of state’s treasury and high level of poverty created by the current government.
