An inquest at Aberystwyth Justice Centre has revealed that a woman, Valerie Jones, lived for three years with her mother’s corpse in a cluttered home in Aberaeron, west of Wales, United Kingdom.
Gaynor Jones, 83, was found covered in grit amid piles of rubbish containing human excrement and urine after police forced their way into the home.
The inquest said Valerie, 57, did not raise alarm over her mother’s death.
She instead opted to buy four bags of salted road grit around Christmas 2015 which the coroner believes she used to ‘embalm or cover up her mother’s body’ in the house.
Gaynor moved into the country cottage with her daughter in 2012 after the death of her husband.
She was last seen in public in July 2015 when she went to a doctor’s appointment.
Valerie refused to allow anyone inside the property, telling neighbours that her mother was staying with relatives or in a care home.
Coroner Peter Brunton said there was no suggestion she was involved in the death but she could have been charged with preventing lawful burial of a body.
