Dr. Sam Amadi, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and Harvard trained legal luminary, is to deliver the 2019 Public Lecture at the Suncity News Champions of Democracy Award under the chairmanship of Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, the former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Igbere TV reports.
On behalf of Media partners for the epoch event, Mr. Chibuisi Mba in a statement issued and obtained by Igbere TV on Tuesday in Abuja, the publisher of Suncity News, disclosed that arrangements have been concluded for a successful event come Thursday, July 11, 2019.
The programme, which holds at the prestigious Nigerian Law School Abuja is part of efforts by the media outfit and its partners to deepen democracy in the country by celebrating individuals, government agencies and security personnel who have contributed positively to the successful conclusion of the 2019 general elections as well as those who have given their best to ensure the development of the country.
Also to be recognized are individuals and corporate bodies, including government agencies, for their role towards ensuring a peaceful election.
Dr. Amadi, who was a fellow at the Care Center for Human Rights Policy at the Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, will be speaking on “Enhanced Electoral System, Good Governance and National Security: The Story of Nigeria’s Journey to Nation Building”.
He Studied Public administration at John F. Kennedy University, Law at Harvard University, and worked at Network on Police Reform in Nigeria.
The guest speaker with a very rich profile was a Senior Counsel at Gani Fawehinmi Chambers from 1993-1995, and was the lead Consultant on Strategic Engagement with Actors in the South West and South East Regions organized by the Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL), a project of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) in October 2017.
He was also Chairman, Senate Technical Committee on Review of Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Bill February 2017 and Chairman, Senate Technical Committee on Review of Transportation Sector Reform Bill March- June 2017, among others.
According to the organisers, “the award ceremony was instituted to spur leaders and citizens alike to do more in upholding the sanctity of the ballot box as a democratic means to legitimately change any government.
“It’s not about those who won the election, it is about everyone who played a role, even at height of provocation, to ensure a peaceful election and maintain due process in seeking redress where necessary, the statement noted.
