The Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund AKYDF Bill has been passed into law by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Sponsored by the Chief Whip of the Assembly and member representing Ini State Constituency Mr Emmanuel Ekpenyong, the bill proposes the establishment and management of the Akwa Ibom State Youth Development Fund with the ultimate aim of creating jobs and evolving greater opportunities for the teeming Akwa Ibom Youths through a legally established Board, as well as attract funding from Federal and International donor Agencies.
The bill which was proposed by youth groups including the Youth Alive Foundation, also seeks the implementation of a sustainable youth policy framework in the state.
During Wednesday plenary, the House dissolved into a committee to consider the recommendations of the Joint House Committee on Security, Youth and Sports and Economic Planning and Development on the Constitution of the Board and the financial provisions
Speaking, the Speaker, Onofiok Luke commended the Youth Alive Foundation and other youth organizations for proposing the bill while urging Akwa Ibom people to take similar advantage of the legislature to propose laws that can positively affect the generality of Akwa Ibom people.
