A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Professor Obasi Igwe, has formally decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Professor Igwe officially declared for the APC today, Tuesday, January 8, 2019.
He was received into the party by His Excellency, former Governor of Abia State and APC Abia North Senatorial Candidate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, at the Ugwuji MBA Hall in Nkporo, Ohafia local government area of the state.
Igwe is a four time Head of Department in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He is the first Nkporo man to make first class, and also the first man to become a Professor.
Speaking with Igbere TV News correspondent, Professor Igwe said he has chosen to join the APC due to the ongoing fight against corruption.
He said that he has chosen to support Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu as Senator, and declared that PDP is dead in Abia.
“I have chosen to join the APC today because I am a lover of progress. I want progress for Igbo land, I want progress for Nkporo community.
“By the way, Buhari is busy tarring roads everywhere in Igbo nation. The things that PDP denied us for many years, we are now enjoying them under the APC rapidly, in fact, very rapidly.
“PDP is simply a group of exploiters, they brought corruption in our land. Buhari is busy fighting corruption, for that reason alone, I support Buhari. Any success on the fight against corruption, releases funds for development and for the benefit of the common man. So for that reason alone, I support the fight against corruption.
“The PDP has stolen resources, we do not know what they plan to use those resources for yet, but as far as I am concerned, Nkporo is for the APC. Other communities have overtaken us in development, so why should we continue in darkness when we have seen light?, we have resolved to join the progressives,” he said.
Speaking on the chances of APC in Abia state in the 2019 polls, Prof. Igwe said “APC will win in Abia, we will mobilize and vote massively for Buhari and Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu.
“Buhari has already won. The other candidate has no basis, he is not accepted by everybody, nor in the international community. He has issues in America, has issues with money, and has issues with his former boss. Now they pretend to have reconciled, which we don’t even believe in. So how can we dump the fortune we have in a man of integrity, and go back to the old order of corruption and iniquity?. They said they have rebranded, but rebranded in what? A new form of corruption. So we are not going back to corruption.”
