Nigeria’s minister for Information Lai Mohammed went head to head with interviewer Charles Aniagolu on Arise News’ “Democracy Day Special”. The minister was questioned why President Muhammadu Buhari was not following up on his allegations of corruption against ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo. Mohammed claimed it was the president’s “prerogative” on who to prosecute. The minister was questioned why President Muhammadu Buhari was not following up on his allegations of corruption against ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo. Mohammed claimed it was the president’s “prerogative” on who to prosecute. This actually compromises the alleged independence of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Aniagolu then asked Mohammed if his answer confirms allegations that the government picks and chooses who to prosecute. The minister started pointing the finger at his inquisitor, telling him that “you don’t listen” as if he were admonishing a child.
Rather than answer the question about insecurity across the country and infighting within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed retorted that the interviewer had “learnt nothing” from this interview.
All Mohammed had to offer was bluster with a raised voice. All of which showed he was clearly rattled by the affront of the presenter in asking him difficult questions.
