The visit, the first of its kind to the group after 15 years of political estrangement, was to the home of the leader of the group, Pa Reuben Fasoranti in Akure yesterday around 3:03 p.m., where he was received by other chieftains of the party.

The presidency however, on Tuesday dismissed the alliance between former president Olusegun Obasanjo and leaders of Afenifere, pan- Yoruba socio-political organisation saying nothing will come out of the union.

Obasanjo during a private visit to Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, at his residence in Akure, Ondo State, on Monday had appealed to the group on the need to work together to repair Nigeria in 2019.

The former president urged Afenifere to ensure that they play vital roles in Nigeria’s rebirth, through the 2019 general election.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in a chat with Daily Independent challenged both Obasanjo and Afenifere to come out with their voters and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls to see if they can defeat President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I don’t see anything coming out of the alliance. The two of them which party do they represent? If they have voters card, let’s meet at the polling station” Shehu said.
