According to an eyewitness:
Last December, in a little street off onyeabor street around topland in Enugu,a little cow was discovered to be missing in a herd of 20.The herdsman searched for it to no avail. He then went to Garriki and invited other herdsmen to help him. Six men joined him and the cow, probably a year old was found in an uncompleted building.
The cow in question was probably stolen by somebody who was not courageous enough to walkaway with it so he left the beast in an uncompleted building. Speaking in Hausa, the herdsmen promised to unleash a terrible retribution in biblical proportion to the inhabitants of that area where this took place. Those fluent in Hausa came out to appeal on behalf of the residents that they knew nothing about the theft but this fell on deaf ears. The people went extra mile and promised to pay the cow’s full prize even though it was found.
They hurriedly raised #70000 which was given to the herdsmen and they left with their baby cow.Two days later, the herdsmen sent three delegates to inform the people that they must produce whoever tried to steal the cow . Suffice it to say that the message got home and registered its full impact on them. Today, nobody sleeps in his house anymore. Once it is 8pm,everybody will leave his house to seek for safer quarters elsewhere and to return around 5am the next day. It is now everyman to himself and God for us all.
Are we not being held hostages in our motherland ?Is this the kind of country we yearned for in 1960? Is it fair for the children’s teeth to be set on edge anytime the parents eat sour grapes?
