Two middle school students have been charged with cyber-stalking and bullying after a female classmate committed suicide by hanging herself, police say.
Gabriella Green, just 12 years old, was found dead in her bedroom closet at her parents’ home after getting threatening messages from bullies.
Police interviewed the two suspects, and say both admitted to cyber-bullying the young girl.
One of the suspects told an investigator that she had started rumors about Gabriella in person, and online.
The suspect spread rumors that Gabriella had sexually transmitted diseases, called her vulgar names, and threatened to “expose” the 12-year-old.
The other suspect, a boy, told police he video-chatted with Gabriella after she told him she had attempted to hang herself and had marks on her neck.
He responded by telling the girl, “If you’re going to do it, just do it,” and he ended the call.
Poor Gabriella went into her closet with a dog leash, the police report says.
In the closet, the blonde-haired youngster fit the leash around her neck, and hanged herself with the dog leash.
It was not known how long the adolescent’s body was hanging in the closet before it was discovered.
The girl’s parents say Surfside Middle School was aware of the cyber-bullying but did nothing to stop it or protect the girl.
Because of the bullying, the young girl had been acting out in class. Instead of helping her, the school suspended the poor 12-year-old.
The adolescent was home on suspension when she hanged herself.
