This is What Will Happen to Igbos If Election Dont Hold in Anambra - Obiano

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra has insisted that gubernatorial elections will hold in the state contrary to the call by pro-Biafra groups that they wouldn’t.

Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) had called on the people to boycott the November election but Vanguard reports that the governor insisted this would be to the detriment of the people.

Obiano recalled how the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State Of Biafra (MASSOB) urged the people not participate in the last census election and how this has left the people to suffer.

He said: “There is going to be an election on that day. Whoever says there will be no election is not carrying the interest of the people at heart”.

“We will not repeat what happened during the national census period in the years back here in the state when those who called themselves MASSOB disrupted the exercise in Igbo land and the consequences of that disruption led to rating our population figure very low which is what we are still suffering today because we were counted less than what we are.”

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that it would go ahead with the planned elections in the south-east even if voters do not really come out to exercise their rights as expected.

Reacting to a call by Biafran agitators for the people of the south-east to boycott the election in Anambra and others until their grievances are met, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu state, Emeka Ononamadu, said that it had nothing to do with the organisation.

Daily Trust reports that Ononamadu, who spoke in Enugu, urged the agitators to stop asking people not to vote because that would not help the zone.
