According to an eyewitness:
This evening at 6:46, there was an explosion in my neighborhood which was followed by a heavy fire.
We suspect the cause of the fire is from a cooking gas a child tried to put on.
It happen that the child was the only person in the compound, though the child escaped death..
All the occupants/tenants went to church while the fire raged..
We immediately called on the calabar fire service but to our greatest surprise they never came until after 2 and half hrs, by then the building has been completely raised down by the fire.
It was by the grace of God that the able youths in the area started bailing out water mixed wit detergent from a neaby GP tank to reduced the fire which had spilled over into another mansion in another compound shearing the same fence.
