Igbos Should Have Their Country , “ So Be It” – Sen. Jibril Calls For Referendum

Sen. Walid Jibrin, The National Chairman, Board of Trustees(BOT) among others on Wednesday said that Biafra would be realized only by referendum and not quit notice.

While speaking with newsmen in Nasarawa, Nasarawa State, Jibril made it known that he would not support any group to bring division in the country but If Igbo’s want their own country, “So be it!”

“Peace and unity were the necessary requirements for the development of any nation” he continued.

He further cautioned the Arewa group as well as others to stay out of crisis and called on Nigerians to see themselves as one.

Following the quest for igbos independence he cited Britain to have conducted referendum on European Union membership, saying that due process was  followed before independence was granted to the group.

On the same scene, he encourages the Igbos to follow suit.

In his words he said “if truly the Igbos want their country, it is only referendum that will grant that independence.

Everybody has his opinion as a Nigerian, and that if public opinion said Igbos should have their country or the North should have theirs, “so be it”.

Jibril went further to ask several important questions which he provided the best answer that addresses same questions thus he asks :-

“If Igbos want their own independence as Biafra, is it enough for the Northern youths to give them quit notice to leave the north to their states?

“The answer is no. I will not instigate any youth to do that, and `quit notice’ is not a good word. This quit notice will not bring peace.

“We must live together, live in unity, unite ourselves and we should not threaten anybody as everybody has the right to live in Nigeria and we don’t have to call for war,” he said.
