Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on Wednesday evening, April 12, reportedly escaped mob attack on his convoy at Idah.
He was said to be on his way from Ibaji, the hometown of his deputy when the incident occurred.
He went to Ibaji to flag off a road construction, an eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Daily Post.
It was reported that upon sighting the Governor, the youths of Idah town immediately mobilised and blocked the route Bello’s motorcade would pass on his way from the event.
The report said as the Governor was returning, his security personnel opened fire when they spotted the road block mounted by the mob.
Some of the attackers were said to have fled the scene while others descended on Bello’s convoy and chanting “pay Kogi workers’ salary.”
It was learnt that Bello, who was also billed to supervise the demolition of a house belonging to the father of an alleged kidnapper, headed out of Idah immediately after escaping the mob attack.
Residents are said to have deserted the town for fear of reprisal attack.
