77-year-old South African Woman, identified as Gogo Busisiwe Duma didn’t receive her pension for more than a year after being unlawfully declared dead by an unknown person..
According to reports, she’s suspected that the fraud was perpetrated when she lost her ID card about two years ago. With the help of her daughter, she had to prove to authorities that she was not dead..
She said she’s gone for her monthly pension last year March and was shocked to be told she’s dead.Someone had actually reported her death to the pension authorities and obtained a death certificate to cash a funeral insurance policy.
Gogo Duma said: “I was going to collect my pension when they told me i could not have any money because i was dead. At first i wasn’t sure if i heard correctly. When it sank in i i was loosing my mind because it didn’t make sense to me”
Gogo said she’s never met Mandisa Gcwabaza, a 29-year-old-man who’s supposed to have carried out the act and however she’s afraid of reporting the matter to the police with fear that the suspect will come for her life for real.
It took her over a year with the help of her daughter to prove she’s not dead.
