The Cross River State Government has reportedly provided 15 electric cars to magistrates under Governor Bassey Otu’s administration to improve mobility, security and judicial efficiency.

While the move may improve the working conditions of judicial officers, it has also raised an important question: Is this the right priority when many residents are still struggling with poor roads, inadequate healthcare, unemployment and other economic challenges?
Electric cars could reduce fuel expenses and support a more modern public service. However, residents deserve to know how much the vehicles cost, how they will be maintained and whether charging facilities are available.
The government must demonstrate that this initiative delivers value for taxpayers while continuing to address the needs of ordinary citizens.
