AAU Lecturer, Mathew Uwuigbe Dies In Hotel 'After Meeting With S*x Worker'

Mathew Uwuigbe, a senior lecturer at the Ambrose Ali University in Ekpoma, Edo state, has died in a hotel room after an alleged sexual encounter with Angela Jacob, a 21-year-old commercial s*x worker.

The incident reportedly happened on Sunday at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan west LGA of the state.

Eno Ikoedem, spokesperson of the Edo state police command, while confirming the incident, said the lecturer passed on moments after checking into the hotel with the lady.

“On October 5, 2026, at about 8 pm, the command received a report that Matthew Uwuigbe, a lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, had lodged at a hotel in Ekpoma and engaged the services of a 21-year-old s*x worker, Angela Defa Jacob,” Ikoedem said.

“He subsequently sent the woman to purchase water for him, and upon her return, she found him lying dead in the room.”

Ikoedem said the hotel owner, the manager and the s*x worker have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently been detained at the state headquarters, while the corpse has been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary.

Mike Aladenika, the university’s public relations officer, confirmed that Uwuigbe is a staff member of the institution, but said the incident happened outside the campus.

“We are not denying that he is our staff, but whatever he did and what happened, it is his private life. The girl in question is not our student, and everything happened outside our institution,” he told PM news.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, AAU Online News, a blog that relays reports within the university, also confirmed Uwuigbe’s death, describing it as “shocking”.

“It is with deep sadness and shock that we received the news of the passing of Dr. Matthew, a lecturer in the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma,” the post reads.

“His death is a painful loss to the university community, his colleagues, students, family, friends, and loved ones. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, students, and everyone mourning this great loss.”
