Police Officers Run As Drone Records Extortion In Osogbo

In Osogbo, Osun State, a simple drone did what many citizens only wish they could do.

A passerby spotted what looked like police officers stopping motorists, allegedly for the usual “settlement.” Instead of arguing or recording with a phone, the person sent up a drone. The moment the small aircraft appeared overhead and started hovering, the entire scene collapsed.

Men in uniform scattered in different directions. Some ran toward compounds, others down the dirt road. The cars that had been stationary suddenly found speed. Within seconds, the road was almost empty.

No confrontation. No raised voices. Just a buzzing camera in the sky and pure panic on the ground.

The video has since gone viral for obvious reasons. It is rare to see power react with such visible fear when it realises it is being watched from above. For many Nigerians, the clip feels satisfying because it captures something familiar: the sudden disappearance of authority the moment accountability shows up.

Technology is changing the game. A drone, once seen as a toy or a photographer’s tool, is now becoming a quiet form of civilian oversight. And in this case, it worked better than most formal complaints ever do.

It seems the most effective resistance is simply making sure they know the whole world can see.
