Gunmen Kill Popular Anambra Comedian, Aiza Nwosu (Photos, Video)

Gunmen have shot dead popular comedian and media personality Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, and another man in separate attacks in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The killings occurred late on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, and Capital City Road, Amaenyi.

Police said preliminary information indicated that three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla carried out the attacks.

Eyewitnesses claimed the assailants trailed Nwosu from his home before blocking his vehicle and opening fire on him.

One witness said the comedian was left in a pool of blood inside his vehicle after the attack.

The assailants, numbering about three and driving in a tinted vehicle, trailed the comedian from his home, double-crossed his vehicle and later attacked him, shooting him dead,” the eyewitness said

The witness added that the gunmen later shot another man by the roadside, dispossessed him of his belongings and fled.

According to the account, the attackers also fired several shots into the air as they escaped, causing panic among residents.

The motive for the killings has not been established, although some residents suggested they could be linked to cult-related activities.

Confirming the incident on Monday, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command had launched an investigation and intensified a manhunt for the suspects.

β€œThe Anambra State Police Command has condemned in the strongest terms the gunshot attacks carried out by unidentified gunmen in Awka, the State capital, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, which resulted in the deaths of two persons,” Ikenga said.

He said information gathered so far showed that three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla, whose registration number had yet to be ascertained, allegedly shot the victims at separate locations.

Police patrol teams were deployed to the affected areas after receiving distress information.

Ikenga said officers recovered the victims from Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, and took them to a hospital where they were confirmed dead.

β€œWhile one of the victims is yet to be identified, the second victim has been identified as Isaac Nwosu, male, also known as β€˜Azia’,” the police spokesman said.

Operatives also recovered N7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scene.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, condemned the killings, describing them as unacceptable and an affront to peace and security in the state.

Ama ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a comprehensive investigation.

He also directed security operatives to intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and neighbouring areas.

The police appealed to residents, community leaders, motorists and business owners who witnessed the attacks or have information about the suspects or their vehicle to assist investigators.

The command assured that information provided by members of the public would be treated confidentially.
