Ogbonnaya Ọnụ Polytechnic To Partner Aba Made Film Project To Enhance Creativity Among Students

The Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Dr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, has expressed the institution’s strong interest in forging a strategic partnership with officials of the Aba Made Film Project, a state-backed creative initiative championed by the Abia State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy to reshape the creative and cinematic landscape of Aba.

Speaking as a special guest during an entertainment engagement held at the institution’s ICT auditorium over the weekend, Dr. Okoro underscored the significance of the programme, particularly at a time when the state government is deliberately investing in youth empowerment and creating platforms for young people to develop and maximise their God-given talents.

The Rector urged participants to take full advantage of the exposure and learning prospects it offers, describing the programme as a rare opportunity.

‎”Opportunities of this nature do not come frequently. Do not take them for granted.”

Dr. Okoro Kalu noted that the unbundling of the Mass Communication Department led to the introduction of Film and Multimedia Production programmes, which aligns closely with the objectives of the Aba Made Film Project.

The Rector disclosed that the institution has recruited qualified lecturers to strengthen training in the creative arts while also establishing structures to support practical learning, attributing the milestone to the support of Governor Alex Otti’s administration which he said has facilitated the acquisition of modern equipment to enhance practical instruction and build students’ professional competencies in the creative sector.

Dr Okoro assured the organisers of the institution’s willingness to cultivate productive collaborations that will advance creative education, innovation and talent development.

‎The Rector further stressed that every great achievement begins with a vision before it becomes a reality. He encouraged participants to cultivate a clear picture of their future aspirations, noting that no one can become part of a future they have not first envisioned.

‎”The journey of a thousand miles doesn’t just begin with a step, it begins with the thought of making that step”

‎He commended the Abia State Government for bringing renowned Nollywood actors and actresses closer to aspiring creatives, thereby removing many of the barriers associated with accessing industry mentorship and professional guidance.

‎Congratulating the participants, Dr. Okoro Kalu applauded their decision to embrace the opportunity, describing it as a unique privilege to interact directly with accomplished figures in the Nigerian film industry and gain valuable insights capable of shaping successful careers in the creative economy.

The landmark undertaking forms part of the Abia State Government’s broader vision to transform Aba into a flourishing hub for creative enterprise and innovation.

‎As part of this ambitious drive, Governor Alex Otti’s administration has proposed the establishment of a dedicated Entertainment Village expected to create employment opportunities, stimulate tourism, and further strengthen the creative landscape of the South-East region.
