The family of the late Mr. Michael Oyedokun, the Oyo State teacher beheaded by abductors on May 15, 2026, has confirmed receiving a donation of N500,000 and two bags of rice from the family of President Bola Tinubu.

The donation was delivered by the President’s daughter, Alhaja Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, who visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and support.
“We express our gratitude to Alhaja Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of the President, and her delegation for their recent visit to the family,” the family stated. “During their visit, they presented a donation of N500,000 and two bags of rice to support the family during this challenging time.”
However, the family’s statement also carried a firm demand for justice. While acknowledging the donation, they stressed that material support cannot replace the need for accountability and the recovery of their loved one’s remains.
“While we remain grateful for the support received, we must reiterate our unwavering call for justice. We urgently appeal for the release of Mr. Michael Oyedokun’s remains so that his wife, children, and extended family may lay him to rest with dignity and finally begin the process of healing,” the family statement concluded.
Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who represents the family, has publicly rejected the gesture. In a statement issued after the visit, he said: “President Tinubu’s daughter visited the wife of our late client in Oyo State with 2 bags of rice and N500k. We insist that rice is not the solution to insecurity issues in Nigeria. The Tinubu-led government has failed to recover the body of our late client so that his family can organize a burial for him.”
The family and their legal representatives have continued to call on President Bola Tinubu to personally intervene to ensure the recovery of the teacher’s body and the safe release of other victims still in captivity weeks after the incident.
