ABA β Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, has been selected as one of only two public tertiary institutions in the South-East to benefit from a TETFund special intervention grant for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences.

The Rector, Engr. Dr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, disclosed this on Tuesday during an enlarged management meeting at the Polytechnic Council Chamber. According to him, the project will include the installation of 300 computers, and TETFund has already assigned a contractor to oversee its implementation.
The intervention is part of TETFund’s decision to establish six new Centres of Excellence across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, with specialisations in Robotics, Coding, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Cybersecurity. This increases the number of TETFund-supported Centres of Excellence nationwide from 30 to 36.
The centres, initially designated for public universities, are expected to be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to drive innovation, advance research, and strengthen Nigeria’s technological development.
The Rector expressed gratitude to TETFund for considering the institution worthy of the intervention. He also praised the Abia State Government for its ongoing approval, construction, and reconstruction of critical infrastructure projects at the institution as preparations continue for relocation to the Osisioma Campus.
He further announced that the foundation-laying ceremony for the proposed 1,000-seat auditorium at the campus will take place on Friday, June 5, 2026.
