… family Cry out Over abandonment by Gov Otti.
A truck driver, Mr. Kelechi Ejiofor, has died from gunshot wounds after being shot by a soldier in Aba, following an incident in which the soldier allegedly boasted that nothing would happen to him, IgbereTV reports.

Ejiofor, a hardworking driver who transported timber across state lines to care for his wife and children, died on Monday morning in the Intensive Care Unit of ABSUTH. His leg, which doctors initially attempted to save, had to be amputated β but the surgery came too late.
Tochukwu Ogbuagu, the boss of Kepukepu TV, visited the hospital and described a harrowing scene. According to his account, Ejiofor was lying helplessly in the ICU, crying out in a loud voice and begging doctors to amputate his leg.
“I thought I am a strong man. Till I paid a visit to Mr. Kelechi Ejiofor in ABSUTH where he was lying helplessly in the ICU unit,” Ogbuagu wrote.
According to his account, doctors had performed a successful surgery on Thursday to put back the shattered bone. However, they later discovered that the bullet had shattered the bone into pieces, leaving nothing to hold the leg together.
When Ogbuagu returned days later, the leg had worsened. The only remedy to save him was amputation.
“I started shouting and making contact, and that was when the doctors came and dressed the wound,” Ogbuagu recounted. “Although they have agreed to cut the leg today, as you’re reading this piece, this would be the last time you will see this affected leg.”
‘What Was His Offense?’
Ogbuagu noted with anguish that the soldier who shot Ejiofor would likely be happy to learn that his victim would lose his leg and never drive again.
“What’s the offense of Mr. Kelechi Ejiofor? His offense is that he is an Igbo man by birth, a hardworking driver by experience who has been traveling from one state to another to convey timber and get paid just to care for his lovely wife and children. Today, he won’t be able to walk unless with crutches.”
Now, he cannot walk at all.
Ogbuagu also expressed frustration that the Mayor of Aba North, who reportedly promised to assign someone to follow up on the case, never visited. No government official had shown up since the Thursday of the incident.
The family has accused the Abia State Government of failing them by refusing to hold the shooter accountable.
“If a trigger-happy security personnel can shoot an Abian who committed no crime and nothing happens, it means the lives of Abia citizens are meaningless. It is Kelechi today; it may be you tomorrow,” Ogbuagu wrote.
The Nigerian Army has not issued any statement on the matter, raising concerns that the case may be allowed to “die a natural death.”
The 14 Brigade Nigerian Army has since issued a statement denying allegations of shooting the driver over N1000 bribe.
According to Captain Muyiwa Ayara, spokesperson for the 14 Brigade, the incident occurred around midnight on April 7, 2026. The Army claimed the driver was involved in a road traffic accident with a motorcycle and attempted to flee the scene. Troops fired a warning shot, which “accidentally” hit Ejiofor on the leg.
The Nigerian Army expressed regret over the “unfortunate incident” and assured the public of a joint investigation with the Nigeria Police.
The family is now calling for justice and demanding that the soldier responsible be brought to book. The Nigerian Army’s promised investigation remains ongoing β though the family says no one has contacted them.
For now, Kelechi Ejiofor β a husband, father, and hardworking driver β is dead. His leg is gone. And the soldier who fired the shot, according to Ogbuagu’s account, is “free, moving around with his rifle.”
