Missing Police Officer Found Dead In Benue

The body of Mohammed Yakubu, a police inspector who went missing in Benue state, has reportedly been recovered in Guma LGA.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the remains were found on Thursday in a bush near the location where the officer was last seen.

Yakubu, an inspector with the 13 Police Mobile Force (PMF) attached to Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF), was reported missing on June 13, 2025.

He reportedly disappeared at Tse Keleke, about 10 kilometres from Daudu, while on duty.

The publication said a joint team comprising officers from the Makurdi metropolitan area command, Daudu division, police medical unit, state intelligence service (SIS), 13 PMF, Operation Zenda JTF, counter-terrorism unit (CTU), and Benue state civil protection guards was deployed to the scene.

The team recovered skeletonised remains, which were conveyed to the 13 PMF base.

Citing police sources, Zagazola said the remains would be released to the family for burial after necessary consultations.

It said the command described the recovery as bringing closure to the long-standing missing-in-action case.
