The Anambra State Police Command has rescued 35 kidnapped victims and arrested over 300 suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, secessionist activities, rape, and other serious offences in the year 2025.
The command also recovered over two 2,000 arms and ammunition, including explosives and other dangerous items.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu at the end-of-Year Press Conference held at the Command’s Headquarters, Amawbia on Wednesday.
He noted that within the year under review, the command recovered more 60 stolen vehicles, including motorcycles; and successfully prosecuted and secured convictions in several criminal cases.
CP Orutugu said this achievements were testament to the re-arrest of the suspects involved in the killing of the late Hon. Justice Azuka in Onitsha, including the gang leader as well as the arrest of the suspects who murdered three Cameroonian nationals and the recovery of the bodies of the victims.
He noted that these feats became possible through strengthening of community policing structures and ensuring that residents remain active stakeholders in security as well as improved inter-agency collaboration, resulting in successful joint security operations and significant breakthroughs.
The CP however regretted that the Command faced some notable challenges despite the above successes, which includes the evolving tactics of criminal elements, occasional resistance, misinformation, and non-cooperation from a few members of the public.
“However, these challenges have only strengthened our resolve to improve our strategies and operational effectiveness in the coming year.”
On preparation for the Christmas and New Year Celebrations, the Police Boss assured that the Command has deployed robust security measures to ensure residents and visitors enjoy a peaceful celebration.
“We urge members of the public to adhere to the following safety advisories:
The use of knock-out substances and other social explosives remains prohibited in Anambra State; Remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements promptly; Comply with traffic regulations and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; Secure homes and valuables before travelling; and Use only designated motor parks and avoid roadside boarding.”
While commending critical Stakeholders including the state government for their supports in policing the state within the outgoing year, CP Dr Orutugu further appreciated the media for accurate and responsible reportage.
He equally thanked Ndi Anambra, for their trust, partnership, timely information sharing, and most especially assistance in facilitating to give a facelift to some of the Police stations, including Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu, Ogidi Division, Amichi Division, Main Market Onitsha, and so many other places.
