Veteran broadcaster and music executive Kenny Ogungbe has shared a touching story about Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem’s extraordinary act of kindness.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast hosted by Nedu Wazobia and his team, Ogungbe recounted how Abdulkareem once gave him ₦2 million to cover his children’s school fees without being asked.
“Many years ago, I needed money to pay my children’s school fees. It was Eedris Abdulkareem who stepped in with ₦2 million. This was when $1 was ₦130. I didn’t even ask him; he just figured out that I was in need,” Ogungbe revealed.
Ogungbe spoke fondly about the strong bond he shares with the rapper, highlighting his role as Abdulkareem’s best man at his wedding. He also praised the rapper’s wife, describing her as an exceptional woman. Additionally, Ogungbe disclosed that he once advised Abdulkareem against polygamy, drawing from his own personal experiences.
“I respect his wife to this day,” he said. “I advised Eedris not to marry more than one wife and to avoid having children outside of marriage because I came from a polygamous home.”
The broadcaster’s account shed light on Abdulkareem’s generous spirit and personal values, sparking comparisons with another Nigerian music icon, 2Baba. Ogungbe noted that, when approached, he did not receive similar financial assistance from 2Baba during a moment of need.
The revelation has drawn widespread admiration, with fans praising Eedris Abdulkareem for his selflessness and the enduring nature of his friendship with Ogungbe. The story also offered a rare glimpse into the rapper’s character, further cementing his reputation as a man of integrity and compassion.
