The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the alleged expulsion of Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, a federal lawmaker representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State.
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in a statement issued by Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, has declared the expulsion as null and void, citing inconsistencies with the party’s constitution and rules.
The controversy began when the Imo PDP Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiak, announced that Ugochinyere was expelled by the executive of the PDP in Ideato LGA over allegations of gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.
However, the PDP leadership has maintained that no ward, local government, or state chapter of the party has the power to suspend, expel, or discipline a member of the National Assembly without due recourse to the National Working Committee.
“The NWC states that Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu remains a bona-fide member of the PDP with all rights, privileges, recognition, obligations, and charges,” the statement said.
The PDP leadership called on all party members in Imo State to remain united and continue to work together in the overall interest of the party and the people.
