Staff and students of the TEEVES International School, a private learning academy in Uyo, today took out time to celebrate, Mr and Mrs Nkereuwem James, over the landmark achievement of their daughter, Marvelous Nkereuwem James.
Miss Marvelous James is among the five students that represented Nigeria at the just-concluded Bilateral International School Debate in Singapore.
The team emerged winners at the competition, to the excitement of Governor Umo Eno, who immediately sent words of felicitation to them for making Akwa Ibom State, and indeed Nigeria, proud.
Reacting to the reception accorded him earlier today at the daughter’s school, Mr Nkereuwem James appreciated the school for a one session scholarship to his daughter, and also thanked Governor Eno for his education-friendly policies that have inspired young people in the State.
“The school called and asked me to come with my wife to the school today. The principal and the management staff received us and broke the good news to us. We were then taken to the School Assembly Hall, where the students had gathered. We were celebrated by the entire school.”
“I am also grateful to the Governor, for the privilege of supporting our children to the competition. They were selected purely on merit, I never lobbied”, he quipped.
Aged 12, Marvelous Nkereuwem James who hails from Ikot Eda in Mkpat Enin local government area is in the JSS 3 class.
Other members of the delegation included, Aniebiet-Abasi Enobong Etukudo from Government Secondary School, Afaha Eket, Emmanuel Godfrey Wiafe from Community Secondary School, Aka Offot, Victory Mfonobong Daniel from Nigerian Christian Institute, and Favour Daniel Paul from Christian Secondary Commercial School, Uyo.
The team was supervised by: Dr. Glory Ekpo, a Director in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Eka Elijah Maples (Education Consultant) from Pegasus School,Eket as Observer and Mrs. Grace Godwin Edinyang from Government Secondary School, Afaha Eket as debate Coach.
