Philip Shaibu Remains Impeached, Can’t Issue Directives In Edo state, Says Gov Obaseki

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has reiterated that Philip Shaibu remains impeached as the Deputy Governor, despite a previous court ruling reinstating him to office.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki dismissed a warning issued by Shaibu to Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), advising them to resist looting attempts by political appointees.

Obaseki labelled Shaibu’s comments as “infantile ramblings,” emphasizing that Shaibu no longer holds the authority to issue directives to government officials until the court makes a final determination on his impeachment status.

This statement follows the Federal High Court’s judgment in July, which voided Shaibu’s impeachment, citing non-compliance with due process by the Edo State House of Assembly.

Governor Obaseki urged Edo State workers to disregard Shaibu’s warnings and continue their duties without fear of interference.

The development comes amidst ongoing tensions between Obaseki and his deputy, which have escalated in recent months.
