The Nigerian Books of Record and research center, Abuja has inducted Olu of Orile-Ilawo, Oba Prof. Olusegun Alexander MacGregor into the Hall of Fame (Who’s who)in Nigeria
In a grand ceremony held in his honour at the prestigious Presidential Boulevard of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria on Thursday 12th September 2024, the Nigerian Books of Record recognized His Royal Majesty, the Olu of Orile-Ilawo, Oba (Prof.) Olusegun Alexander MacGregor’s outstanding leadership and contributions to humanity.
This memorable occasion was attended by an array of distinguished guests, including high-ranking government officials, industry leaders, and iconic figures who have made significant impacts in their respective fields.
According to the Director General of the Nigerian Books of Record, Professor David David;
“Oba MacGregor’s induction into the Nigerian Books of Record Hall of Fame is a clear indication of his exceptional leadership, vision, and contributions to the advancement of his kingdom and the African continent at large”
Prof David David added that Oba McGregor inventions led to the ground breaking therapeutic drugs for cancer treatment.
“The outstanding record of Oba MacGregor as a successful pharmacologist whose inventions have led to groundbreaking therapeutic drugs for the treatment of cancer, management of diabetics, systemic infections, and post-operative pains have made him worthy of this recognition and therefore need to be repositioned as a role model for the next generation and the generation yet unborn,”
As a renowned professor of Biopharmaceutics and the founder and president of the Toronto Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology (TIPT), Oba MacGregor has made groundbreaking contributions to the field of pharmaceutical science and technology.
His impressive credentials include receiving several global patents in phytotherapy, medical treatments, and advanced drug delivery technologies from Canada, the US, Australia, Europe, Latin America, China, India, Singapore, Indonesia, and Japan. His inventions have led to the development of therapeutic drugs for the treatment of cancer, management of diabetes, systemic infections, and post-operative pain.
Oba MacGregor’s achievements have been recognized with numerous international awards of excellence, including the African Canadian Science & Technology award of excellence, the Nigerian Canadian Association’s distinguished award of excellence, and the prestigious Harry Jerome Trailblazer award.
As a proud Egba man, Oba MacGregor’s belief in tradition and customs, combined with his family’s historical legacy of leadership and progress, has fueled his unwavering passion and commitment to the development of Egbaland and Nigeria.
His dedication to education, women and youth empowerment, and welfare is evident in his founding and chairmanship of the MacGregor Heritage Foundation.
Eminent personalities who witnessed the event included His Excellency Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun CON, who was represented by the Honorable Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Honorable Ganyu Hamzat. Others included the Honorable Commissioner for Special Duties in Ogun State, Honorable Funmi Efuwape, former Commissioner for Special Duties, Honorable Olufemi Ilori-Oduntan, former Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Chief Bukola Olopade, and some other political figures.
His Royal Majesty Alake, the paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo Okukenun the third, was ably represented, while Olowu of Owu, Oba Professor Saka Matemilola, was in attendance with many other monarchs of Egba descent.
Popular filmmaker and actor, Femi Branch, was in attendance, while Juju music king, King Sunny Ade, provided music to celebrate Oba MacGregor’s induction into the Nigerian Books of Record, commemorating his one-year anniversary on the throne of his forefathers.
In addition to being inducted into the nation’s Hall of Fame, the Nigerian Books of Record also bestowed upon him the Nigerian Icon of Good Governance (NIGG) Award, and fellowship as a member of the NBR. The Nigerian Icon of Good Governance NIGG Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in promoting good governance principles in Nigeria through transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement.
Oba (Prof.) Olusegun Alexander MacGregor’s induction into the Nigerian Books of Record Hall of Fame is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to humanity. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations to strive for greatness.
