35 Bandits Killed As Troops Repel Attack On Zamfara Community

Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly killed 35 bandits during an attack in Matuzgi village in Talatar Mafara LGA of Zamfara.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said one Jummu Sumoli, a suspected bandit, led the attack.

The publication noted that the troops, in collaboration with the villagers, killed 25 bandits during the face-off.

A source said the gun duel between security forces and bandits lasted for two hours, adding that three residents of the village were killed in the process.

The source said the insurgents retreated but were ambushed at Magamin Diddi village in Maradun LGA.

“Ten more bandits were killed during the ambush,” the source said.

Makama said a similar attack was launched on Matuzgi village in July, adding that many residents, particularly men were killed.

The publication said the bandits released only the women after ransom was paid for their freedom.

It added that credible intelligence was received about the plan to attack villages of Matuzgi and Mai Jatau on August 27.

“The swift response of security forces and villagers was crucial in repelling the attack and reducing further casualties,” Makama added.
