Two Nigerians Arrested In Haiti For Faking Haitian Nationality

Two Nigerians were arrested on Sunday by Haitian police for possession of fake Haitian National Identification Cards.

According to reports, the suspects, Madukanze Kenneth, 31, and Henry Peter, 29, were taken into custody in Jacmel, Haiti.

Kenneth was found with an ID card bearing the name “Augustin Jerry,” while Peter’s card was under the name “Junior Jean Pierre.”

The South East Police Department in Haiti announced the arrests on social media, emphasising their commitment to continue working “tirelessly” to apprehend lawbreakers and maintain public order.

Haiti is currently battling widespread gang violence, with frequent clashes between gangs and the police.

Since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021, gangs have taken control of significant areas of the country, with nearly 80 per cent of the capital, Port-au-Prince, under gang control, according to the Associated Press.

On Monday, Haitian police used tear gas to disperse hundreds of peaceful protesters who were demanding that the government address the escalating gang violence.
