The Ishienu Amofu Nkerefi community has unequivocally disowned recent claims by a certain Chief Michael Christian Ogbonnaya, known as Christag, asserting himself as the Igwe of Ishienu Amofu Nkerefi.
The community refutes these assertions, describing them as fabrications devoid of any legitimate electoral backing.
In a press release signed by Prince I. O. Ezeoha on behalf of the Ishienu Amofu Peoples Assembly, it was categorically stated that no election took place on the purported date of March 30, 2024, or on any other occasion. Therefore, any claims of an Igwe elect are dismissed as falsehoods.
βIt is distressing that an individual once respected in our community is attempting to illegitimately occupy the revered throne of the Igwe,β the statement read. The assembly stressed that the community follows a traditional electoral process for selecting its leaders, which Chief Ogbonnaya did not undergo.
The statement further cautioned the public and relevant authorities, including the Enugu State Government, against recognizing Chief Ogbonnaya’s claims. It emphasized that any congratulatory messages or public statements made by him in the capacity of an Igwe are misleading.
The community assured that a legitimate election will be conducted in due time, after which the elected Igwe will be formally introduced to the appropriate state ministries and His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State.
The Ishienu Amofu Nkerefi community remains committed to upholding its traditions and ensuring that the rightful processes are adhered to in selecting their traditional and spiritual leader. The public is urged to disregard any false representations and await official announcements regarding future developments.
