Biggest Ship To Berth In Nigerian Port, CMA CGM Scandola Arrives Lekki Today

Just a week following the momentous arrival of the largest container ship at Lekki Port, Nigeria’s deepest seaport, another significant event is on the horizon.

This time, it’s the imminent docking of the CMA CGM Scandola, a container ship even more massive than the Maersk vessel that graced the port the previous Sunday.

Scheduled to make its entrance on Monday, January 29, 2023, the CMA CGM Scandola boasts an impressive capacity of 14,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) for containerized imports.

Notably, this vessel aligns with global sustainability goals as it operates on liquefied natural gas (LNG), as highlighted in the official invitation for its reception sent to BusinessDay.

Reflecting on the recent success, Biodun Dabiri, Chairman of Lekki Port, emphasized the port’s capability to accommodate large vessels, attributing this to its state-of-the-art facilities and world-class equipment.

Dabiri further expressed that Lekki Port’s achievements have elevated Lagos State and Nigeria on the global maritime stage, marking the initiation of Nigeria’s journey towards becoming a maritime hub in the sub-Saharan African region.
