In Adamawa State, some residents have rejected the rice distributed by President Bola Tinubu as a relief measure amidst the prevailing hardships.
Their discontent stems from the belief that the President has exacerbated the country’s difficulties by removing the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
Additionally, they claim that the distributed rice is either spoiled or of substandard quality.
This dissatisfaction led to a protest on Tuesday, coinciding with the distribution of 500kg rice bags by Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). The rice, sent from the Presidency to aid indigent CAN members, received gratitude from Bishop Mamza, who appreciated the President’s consideration for the less privileged.
However, beneficiaries expressed concerns about the rice’s quality, noting that the sacks, adorned with President Tinubu’s pictures, contained a mix of black and brown grains. This discrepancy further fueled the rejection of the distributed rice.
“For God’s sake, they’re giving us this spoiled rice just because we’re poor people, right? No problem, there’s God,” one of the beneficiaries lamented.
Another beneficiary asked: “You mean these people are callous enough to serve us this rice that looks more like animal feed?”
Another person, Johnson Abana, said, “I don’t think the President has seen this rice. I can only suspect that someone within the corridor of power may have short-changed both the President and the people.”
“This is ungodly, wicked and evil! Yes, it is evil to mock people with bad food just because they’re poor,” he added.
