Graphic videos and images featuring Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP Edet Inyang, assigned to the Delta State Police Command, have surfaced.
The incident occurred on December 9, 2023, when ASP Inyang parked his vehicle near the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade in Asaba to make purchases. While at a store, he encountered a man in mufti, later identified as Lance Corporal Onyibuchi from the Intelligence Department of the 63 Brigade, speaking unintelligibly from a distance.
Amid the confusing dialogue, a uniformed soldier instructed Inyang to relocate his vehicle. In compliance, Inyang began the process when Lance Corporal Onyibuchi approached, physically dragged him backward, questioning his failure to follow instructions.
In response, Inyang explained that he couldn’t comprehend the instructions due to the distant and unclear nature of Onyibuchi’s speech. Ignoring the explanation, Lance Corporal Onyibuchi, accompanied by at least ten other soldiers, proceeded to violently assault ASP Inyang. The assault continued until Inyang lost consciousness, prompting his transfer to a military hospital for urgent medical attention.
While in the hospital, a fellow officer from a Joint Taskforce recognized Inyang. When questioned by their superiors, the soldiers involved claimed ignorance of Inyang’s status as a police officer, despite the severe brutality inflicted on him.
