El-Rufai Visits Obasanjo in Ogun, Silent On Discussion With ex-President

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna state, paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, this Sunday.

Accompanied by his friends, El-Rufai met with his former boss at the penthouse of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, as shared in a post on his verified social media account.

This visit by El-Rufai comes shortly after his recent installation as the Gbobaniyi of Ijebuland by the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, just a week ago.

The former governor said he visited Obasanjo with some friends, but was silent on reason for the visit.

“Earlier today (Sunday), I visited my boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo welcomed me and my friends (to) his Abeokuta home. We were hosted to a sumptuous lunch by Mrs. Obasanjo for which we are very grateful. Back to base for Christmas in sha Allah,” he posted.

In September, he described Obasanjo as the “most successful” in terms of economic growth, job creation, and inflation rate in Nigeria.

The former governor spoke during a session at the Africa In the World conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

“If you look at Nigeria’s economic trajectory, the most successful four to five-year period of economic growth, job creation, and reduced inflation was the period of the second term of President Obasanjo in 2003 to 2007, when for the first time, the country went back into proper integrated planning and we also got lucky,” he said.

El-Rufai worked as the director-general of Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and later as minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the eight-year administration of Obasanjo.
