Air Peace, a leading Nigerian airline, has responded to a video circulating on social media that includes false allegations about the safety of one of its flights.
The video, posted by a passenger, suggests that the aircraft was faulty, and the pilot engaged in questionable maneuvers. In a statement issued by the airline’s management, they vehemently deny these claims, describing them as “false and sensationalized.”
According to Air Peace, the incident occurred during the 8 am Lagos-Abuja flight on December 15, 2023. The airline clarifies that the passengers boarded as scheduled, but an unforeseen issue arose with the Ground Power Unit (GPU) responsible for powering the aircraft.
The malfunction of the GPU led to the cabin becoming uncomfortably warm. To address this, passengers were asked to disembark temporarily until a serviceable GPU could be deployed to power the aircraft.
The airline emphasizes that the departure delay was solely due to the GPU issue and not any fault with the aircraft. Once the situation was rectified, the flight continued as scheduled, and the aircraft is now operational for its subsequent flights.
While acknowledging the inconvenience caused to passengers, Air Peace strongly rejects any insinuations that compromise the safety of their aircraft. The statement underscores the airline’s commitment to adhering to all established safety standards and assures the public that the pilot’s actions were not a result of maneuvering due to faulty equipment.
Air Peace urges the public to disregard the misleading claims made in the video, emphasizing that the pilot’s actions were in adherence to safety protocols. The airline remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and comfort of its passengers and maintains its compliance with industry safety standards.
