Former aides of Chief Willie Obiano, the ex-Governor of Anambra State, are urging the current governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to address the outstanding issue of their severance packages. This request was emphasized during a reunion meeting held in Awka on Sunday.
Expressing concern, the aides highlighted the unfortunate fact that, within the span of two years since leaving office, at least 42 appointees of the former governor have passed away.
Tragically, these individuals did not receive their severance allowances before their demise. In light of this, the group appealed to Governor Soludo to expedite the process of disbursing the overdue severance allowances to the surviving members.
Igbere TV reports that Obiano had a month ago, made the same call, insisting that the payment and appointment of some of his aides into Soludo’s government were part of the condition under which Soludo was supported to succeed him.
The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, a former political appointee under Obiano and who was at the function urged the former aides not to despair but to trust in God.
He said even Governor Soludo was a former appointee to Obiano, so there was no reason to panic.
